Research Exchange at the Harris Conservation Initiative

Having come from the small town of Cordova, Maryland, Norman is grateful for the numerous opportunities he has had. His travels in Latin America and Asia have helped him develop his skills as an ecologist and conservationist. Now, he wants to provide those opportunities to others.

Students and researchers at  that collaborate at HCI projects will have the opportunity to travel and conduct research at other HCI projects. For example, our partners at Las Casas de la Selva in Puerto Rico will be able to visit and collaborate at HCI projects in Belize, the Philippines, Maryland, and Japan. Likewise, we look forward to bringing our partners at Project Palaka to visit Puerto Rico and our other projects.

Collaboration is essential to conservation success, and we believe that the best collaboration efforts pair the local community members who, having lived in an area all their lives, are aware of the ebbs and flows, the seasonal changes, and the intricacies of local ecosystems, as well as non-locals, who can led a pair of “new eyes” to conservation issues, and may make observations that would otherwise be missed.
